Winning start for Barry’s, Habib Metro Lions in Samba Bank Polo Championship

Barry's and Habib Metro Lions/Master Paints won their matches on the opening day of Samba Bank Lahore Open Polo Championship at Lahore Polo cup ground.

 

Barry’s displayed good show and won the match against Diamond Paints by 7-5. Hernan Pieres emerged as hero of the match as he hammered superb 6 goals for Barry’s while the remaining goal came from Raja Samiullah. Eulogio Celestino and Ahmad Khan contributed a brace each while Mir Huzaifa hit one for Diamond Paints.

Diamond Paints took lead in the first chukker as they stuck a field goal through Ahmed Khan but soon Hernan Pieres from Barry’s equalized the goal. In the dying moments of second chukker, Ahmad Khan converted a spot penalty successfully to provide Diamond Paints 2-1 lead.

The fourth chukker was highly charged as Barry’s stuck a quartet and took lead by 5-2. Eulogio Celetino then came to rescue Diamond Paints and slammed back to back goals to reduce the lead 5-4. Hernan continued his good form and converted a 30-yarder successfully to give Barry's 6-4 edge. Mir Huzaifa once again helped his team diamond paints to reduce the lead 6-5. Barry’s took charge again and stuck one more goal to take undeniable lead by 7-5 and Diamond Paints could not bridge the gap after that and Barry’s won the match.

In the second match of the day, Hamza Mawaz brilliant effort helped Habib Metro Lions/Master Paints to outpace Future Developers/Rijas by 6-3.  Hamza Mawaz displayed good show of his skills and fired 4 goals while Bilal Haye added a brace to complete the tally for Habib Metro Lions/Master Paints. Geoffredo thwarted all the three goals from the losing side.

Habib Metro started the game with high pace and stuck a goal at the start of first chukker while banged in 3 more goals in the second chukker to make it 4-0, later Future Developers hit 1 goal to make it 4-1. In the third chukker, Habib Metro fired 2 more goals and bridge the gap to 4-3 but once again a goal came from Habib Metro to further strengthen the led 5-3. The only goal of the fourth and last chukker was converted by Habib Metro to finish the match having 6-3 lead.

Black Horse Paints to take Guard Group in the only match tomorrow.
