Two matches will be contested in the Solitaire Polo Cup 2016 for Faysal Bank today (Friday) here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground.
In the first match of the day to be played at 3:45 pm at LPC ground, Master Paints will take on Rijas while Guard Group will vie against JS Bank in the second match of the day at 4:45 pm. The matches will decide finalists of the tournament. If Master Paints and JS Bank win their respective matches, they will directly qualify for the finals. In case, they lose their matches, then finalists will be decided on better goal average.
Talking to media during a practice session for today’s match, Syed Shehryar Bukhari of Guard Group termed his team’s chances of winning the crucial match against Rijas quite bright. “We will try to give our best and with collective efforts and hard work, we will try to not only qualify for the final but also clinch the title.”
Shehryar has said that polo is in his blood as it is his family game. “My grandfather Major (r) Javed Mawaz Khan was a big name in polo while my uncle and cousins are international level polo players. My father Asad Bukhari and uncle Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat have taught me how to be a good sportsman and a politician. I will continue playing polo and also want to be a good politician soon.”
Appreciating the facilities and beauty of Lahore Polo Club, Shehryar termed it one of the best polo clubs in the entire country. “Lahore Polo Club is a big nursery which produces a great number of quality polo players every year. To reach the level of LPC, other clubs of the country need to work hard for at least 15 to 20 years.”
He termed this year’s Pakistan polo season as the most challenging and enthralling one and hoped the next one would be better than this one. Shehryar has also disclosed that in next polo season, he is going to introduce his own team which, he hopes, will produce better results.
