But Guard Group bounced back in style in the second chukker hammering two back-to-back goals through high-flying Taimur Ali Malik to reduce the lead to 4-2. Taimur continued his sublime form in the third chukker as well as produced a brilliant brace to level the score at 4-4. In the fourth and decisive chukker, both the teams played attacking polo and kept on attacking each other goal but both couldn’t produce a single goal and the chukker ended goalless. In the sudden death chukker, Mir Huzaifa once again proved his mettle and smashed a match-winning goal to steer Subway to a thrilling 6-5 triumph. Azam Haya Noon and Taimur Hayat Noon officiated the match as field umpires.
Earlier in the first match of the day, Newage played superb polo and thrashed struggling Rijas by 10-4. For the losing side, M Usman Malik thwarted all the four goals.
Talking to this scribe, man-of-the-second-match Mir Huzaifa, who smashed fabulous four goals in Subway’s win, termed collective efforts and team work behind his team’s victory. “We started the match well and kept on putting pressure on our rivals. But then suddenly, Taimur Malik started playing superb polo and blasted four goals to level the score and then Sheharyar added one more to give Guard Group one-goal lead. At that time, we changed our game plan and I started playing attacking polo and succeeded in scoring two goals to give my team well-deserving win. I am keen to perform well in next matches and want to win title for it.”
