Zacharias slams 11 goals in Sabeeha’s win in Polo Gold Cup

While Sabeeha Anees and Army Remounts earned hard fought victories, Diamond Paints registered an easy win as the most prestigious event of the polo season, the National Open Polo Championship 2016 for Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup, exploded into action here on Wednesday.

All 11 goals by Pedro Zacharias guided Sabeeha Anees edge out Learning Alliance 11-10 in the most thrilling encounter which has stretched to sudden death.

The two teams were locked at 10-10, when the stipulated five chukkers play was completed. But Zacharias again came up to the expectations of his team by hitting the winner in the sudden death period.

For the losing side, Max Charlton contributed six goals while Usman Haye added two and Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Adnan Jalil Azam chipped in with one goal each.

Army Remounts also completed their win against Master Paints in the sudden death period with a close margin 9-8 win.

George Meyrick was the main contributor with a tally of four goals.

Major General Isfandiyar Pataudi and Major Haseeb Minhas hammered two goals apiece while Major Omer Minhas netted one.

For the losing side, Juan Cruz Losada slammed in five goals while Hamza Mawaz Khan added three but their heroics couldn’t save their team from the loss.

Six-goal strike by seasoned campaigner Saqib Khan was the anchor in awarding Diamond Paints 9-6 win against Master Paints/Habib Metro.

Santiago Cernadas also fired three goals to make the tally and outshine the all good work of rival’s Pedro Guiterrez, who struck five goals for his team.

Hissam Ali Hyder added one goal for the losing side.
