Pakistan Pockets 2 Gold in the opening day of South Asian Judo Championship

Pakistani Judokas secured 2 gold, 2 silver medals in the opening day of ongoing 8th South Asian Senior Judo Championship 2018 being held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

 

In the opening day of 8th South Asian Senior Judo Championship, Pakistan won two gold and two silver medals. Shah hussain and Qasir Khan Afiridi won the gold while Maryam and Humaira Ashiq secured silver medals for Pakistan.

Shah Hussain defeated Sri Lankan opponent Rathnayake Yasith in the final of the +100kg weight category to win the gold medal.

Hailing from FATA, Qaisar Khan Arfidi who secured bronze in the South Asian Games in 2016 won the gold this time for his country in the -90kg category.

Maryam and Humaira Ashiq both lost in the gold medal match against Indian opponents and settled for silvers as Pakistan Judo team got 2 gold and 2 silver medals on the first day of the competitions.

Shah Hussain defeated Udayvir Singh of India in the semifinal and said that was the delighted moment of his life to defeat Indian rival. “I have achieved the first task of winning gold in the South Asian Judo Championship now I’ll train myself harder to win the gold for Pakistan Asian Games”, he added.

Besides hosts Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are participating in the three-day Judo championship.

Total of 102 players will be competing for seven gold, seven silver and 14 bronze medals each in both men’s and women’s individual categories in the event.
