Rizvi’s, Barry’s and Army victorious in National Open Polo Championship

Master Paints/Rizvi’s thrashed Rijas Aces/PAF, Barry’s overpowered Diamond and Army defeated Master Paints Black to register victories in the ongoing Diamond Paints National Open Polo Championship for Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2018 at the Lahore Polo Club.

 

Combine team effort helped Master Paints/Rizvi’s to rout Rijas Aces/PAF by 8-1 in a one-sided match. Juan Cruz Losada struck a quartet while Farooq Amin Sufi contributed a brace and Saqib Khan Khakwani, Hamza Mawaz Khan hit one goal each. Deigo Araya was the lone goal scorer for PAF.

PAF opened their account in the first chukker as Deigo Araya scored the goal. Rizvi’s in the second chukker not only came with equalizer but also took lead by 2-1. In the third chukker, Losada first converted a 60-yard penalty and then scored a field goal in the start of fourth chukker to extend their lead to 5-1. Farooq Amin then contributed one more to further enhance their lead to 6-1. In the fifth and last chuker, Losada and Farooq hit one goal each to give Master Paint/Rizvi’s 8-1 lead which remained intact till the end and they won the match with a big margin of 8-1.

In the second match, Juan Maria Guinazu (Titu) helped Barry’s to defeat Diamond Paints in a high scoring encounter. Titu fired 8 fabalus goals while 2 goals came from Bilal Haye and one by Nafees Barry to complete the tally. Macos Araya banged in 5 goals while Eulogio Celestino and Mumtaz Abbas Niazi added 2 goals apiece from Diamond Paints but remained on the shorter side.

First chukker was highly charged as both the teams scored 3 goals apiece but in the second chukker, Barry’s came more aggressively as they scored 3 more goals to make it 6-3 but it was lately reduced to 6-4 by Diamond Paints. Third chukker was once again come out to be highly charged as both teams scored 3 goals each to make it 9-7. Diamond Paints scored the only goal of fourth chukker to reduce the lead to 9-8 but Barry’s once again prevailed over their opponents and slammed in two more to win the match by 11-8.

Day ended with another thrilling encounter between Army and Master Paints Black where Army wins it by 7-6. Brig Zulfiqar Ali hammered a hat-trick while Ignasio Negri and Major Omer Minhas converted a brace each for Army. Gerardo Mazinni and Hissam Ali Hyder banged in 2 goals each while Sufi M Haris and Raja Mikael Sami also converted one goal apiece but could not take MP Black home safely.

Army scored a brace in the first chukker but in the dying moments, MP Black also came up with a goal to reduce lead by 2-1. Both the teams scored 2 goals each as second chukker ended with even possession. In the third chukker Army once again successfully converted a brace to make it to 6-3 and it also added another goal in the fourth chukker and further exted ots lead to 7-3. MP Black registered a strong comeback in the fifth and last chukker as they banged in 3 goals but could not managed to make any other that declares any other goal that announced Army’s victory by 7-6.
