Newage, Army, Barry’s victorious in Aibak Polo Cup

Newage/BJJ Pipes, Army and Barry’s emerged victories in the ongoing Huaneng Shandong Ruyi Aibak Polo Cup 2018 matches played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground.


The first encounter of the day was between the Newage/BBJ Pipes and Master Paints Black where Newage routed MP Black by 10½-6. Newage came into the match with half a goal handicap advantage and Salvador Ulloa was too hot against MP Black as he pumped in 8 of 10 goals from Newage while two Ahmed Zubair butt converted 2 remaining goals. Gerardo Mazzini fired a hat-trick while Hissam Ali Hyder scored a brace from MP Black which did not hurt Newage any bad.

Newage/BBJ Pipes started their campaign and dominated the first half of the game where Salvador banged in a brace to take 2-0 lead. Mazzini scored the first goal for MP Black in the second chukker and reduces the lead to 2-1. Newage then hit back opponents hard as Salvador banged in another 2 goals while Ahmed Zubair pumped in 1 and made it 5-1. Hissam the contributed another goal in the dying minutes of second chukker to reduce the deficit to 5-2.

Both the teams played evenly in the third chukker as both contributed 2 goals each. Salvador and Ahmed Zubair scored 1 goal each from Newage while Hissam and Mazzini fired 1goal apiece from MP Black. Last chukker saw both the teams playing close game where at the end, Newage’s Salvador hammered a hat-trick while Mazzini scored a brace from MP Black to end the game on 10½-6 in favor of Newage/BBJ Pipes.

Army in the second match of the day defeated Rizvi’s/MasterPaints by 5-2 where Ignasio Negri emerged as star from them as he hammered a quartet while Major Omer Minhas scored the remaining 1 goal. Saqib Khan Khakwani and Hamza Mawaz Khan contributed 1 goal each from Rizvi’s/Master Paints.

Both the teams started the first chukker carefully and scored 1 goal apiece where Ignasio scored the goal from Army and Saqib was the scorer from Rizvi’s. Hamza in the second chukker, gave Rizvi’s 2-1 lead but soon Major Omer leveled the score 2-2 before the end of second chukker. After that, it was all Army’s show as the struck 1 in the third and 2 in fourth chukker. All these three goals were scored by Ignasio.

In the last match of the day, Barry’s outpaced Rijas Aces/PAF by 9-7½. Jaun Maria Ginazu (Tito) slammed 8 of 9 goals from Barry’s while Bilal Haye scores the remaining goal. Rija’s started the game with one and half goal handicap advantage but they could not use it in their favor while Deigo Araya banged in all the six goals and none of his teammate helped him to pass the Barry’s challenge.

Barry’s opened their account through Juan Ginauz but the lead did not last long as Deigo banged a quartet and took lead of 4-1 from Rijas. Juan Ginauz lifted his team up as he hammered a hat-trick to level the score 4-4. In the last moments of second chukker, Bilal Haye hot a goal to take 5-4 lead for Barry’s.

Juan Ginauz in the third chukker fired a hat-trick and extended the team lead to 8-4 which was bridge by Deigo to 8-6 who hit one goal at the end of third chukker and the other in the start of fouth chukker. Juan Ginauz pumped in one more goal in the dying moments of fourth chukker to finish the match with Barry’s winning by 9-7½.
