Wazir, Raza ahead for title race of Governors Cup Golf

Lahore Gymkhana’s Wazir Ali and Raza Khan are fighting hard for the title at the end of sound on the third day of 34th Millat Tractors Governors Cup Golf Championship at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course.

Leaders on the day 1 Hamza Asif, Ammad Naeem and Hussain Hamid Hamid felt cowed down by nerves and on some holes the fluency and flair they displayed during the first round was gone and rusty handling of shots replaced excellence of the previous day. Hussain Hamid has slipped to 7th position, Hamza to 8th position and Ammad on 9th.

Out of the four leaders of the first round, Raza Khan is the only one who survives as the super one and with a second round score of net 71 his aggregate net score for the two rounds is 138.

He shared position on top of the leader board with the established Wazir Ali who plays left handed and was in his elements in the course of the second round. Every shot that Wazir Ali hit represented accuracy at its best and the other aspects like chipping and putting carried the flavor of remarkable control and quality. His “hole” wise performance included four birdies, fourteen regulation pars and another outstanding aspect was that the round was bogie free.

Wazir Ali and Raza Khan as leaders are placed at a two days  aggregate score of net 138 and as the championship moves into the final phase, these two feel threatened by the presence of Ahmed Zafar Hayat of Gymkhana at a net aggregate score of 139 and the stroke advantage is just one. In the second round, Ahmed carded a round of net 68 and his overall aggregate for two rounds adds up to 139 and he becomes a strong contender for the title.

At a score of net 140 are three contenders. Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana (Defence Raya) is one and two others are Umar Khawaja (Sialkot) and Dr Abdul Hamid Awan (Gymkhana). The competing amateurs will tee off on Sunday at 7:45am.

Tomorrow will be the last day of the 34th Millat Tractors Governors Cup Golf Championship and at the conclusion of the championship, Governor Punjab Muhammed Rafique Rajwana will distribute prizes to the winners at 4pm at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
