Former president District Cricket Association Swabi and Abbottabad Amir Nawab has vowed that the construction of sports complex in Swabi to help in reviving sports in general and cricket in particular in the region.

Former president District Cricket Association Swabi and Abbottabad Amir Nawab has vowed that the construction of sports complex in Swabi to help in reviving sports in general and cricket in particular in the region.
Talking to The Nation, Amir said: “By the grace of Almighty, the 200-kanal sports complex is almost completed and ready to host sports activities. The Gohati cricket ground will host first class matches. The stadium is constructed keeping in mind the weather in summer, as hot and humid weather prevents players from practicing. The Swabi Stadium will provide relief to the players, who will enjoy lush green outfield besides top class venue for keeping themselves fit for the international duties.”
Amir said: “I have played cricket for Swabi district and now elected naib nazim from Tehsil Swabi. I was president of Swabi District Cricket Association from 2005 to 2011, President Regional Cricket Association Abbottabad from 2006 to 2013 and I was the PCB governing body member from 2010 to 2013. I was the chairman human resource and administration committee from 2010 to 2013 and advisor to Pakistan-Afghanistan Cricket affairs. I organised the Pakistan A and Afghanistan national cricket teams one-day series and also arranged Pakistan-Afghanistan first ever one-day international match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium where I was chief guest.”
Amir said he remained advisor on regional cricket till 2015, elected as member District Assembly Swabi for four years in the recently-concluded elections. “I helped in constructing new Abbottabad Region cricket ground, Manshera cricket ground, Hazara University cricket ground, Ayub Medical Complex cricket, Railway cricket ground in Haripur, cricket ground in Mardan, Gomal University Cricket ground, Dera Ismail Khan.
“I also helped in establishing cricket academies in the name of leg spin wizard Yasir Shah, Shah Mansoor, Swabi, Junaid Khan cricket academy, Swabi, Pukhtunkhwa Cricket Academy Gohati, Swabi, Peace cricket academy, Topi Swabi, Golden Cricket Academy, Gadoon, Sheikh Jana and Kalu Khan cricket academy,” he added.
Amir said besides setting up the network of cricket grounds, he also gave country the Test cricketers Junaid Khan, Yasir Shah while Fawad Ahmad, who is representing Australian national team, is also a product of mine. Ten first class players are from Swabi, two players in Pakistan U-17 team and three players in Pakistan U-19 team are from Swabi. I was manager of Pakistan A team tour to Sri Lanka. I have the honour of hosting first ever PCB Board of Governors meeting in Abbottabad in 2012-13.”
“I organised first class matches at Gohati Cricket Stadium, Swabi, Mardan and Abbottabad cricket stadiums as well. I have to suffer ad-hoc on Abbottabad Region, I knocked the doors of court and stopped former chairman Zaka Ashraf from undemocratic steps with the help of court, but Najam Sethi betrayed our group. He backed off from his promise of introducing democratic PCB constitution.
"After sensing things are not working as they should be, I refused to work with Najam Sethi and tendered my resignation as an advisor on regional cricket. I was victimised by Sethi and his close aides for taking principle stance. They introduced different rules just to bar me from running cricket affairs, but I have no lust of power, because Pakistan gave me so much and I always work for the betterment of cricket in general and KP players in particular. I always raise the voice to provide justice to deserving players and will continue to do so. Today Pakistan cricket is suffering just because of these so-called administrators," he added.
“Pakistan is blessed with natural raw talent, but the only need of the hour is to spot that talent, groom them in the national or regional academies and get best out of them. I strong believe in hard working, dedication, devotion and sincerity as they always prevail. I will continue serving Pakistan cricket in best possible way, without thinking about holding offices in the PCB or region. It is my promise, as long as I am alive, I will not tolerate injustices to the players and cricket,” Amir concluded.
