UNIC, POA to collaborate for sports activities next month

The Islamabad-based United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in collaboration with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) will commemorate International Day of Sports For Peace and Development by organising sporting activities across the country between April 2 to 16, an official told Dawn on Tuesday.

The POA has selected seven disciplines besides rock climbing in which competitions will take place. The disciplines include handball (men, women), baseball (men), badminton (men), table tennis (women), football (women), basketball (men, women) and volleyball (men).

The programme was finalised during a meeting held between the POA officials and director of the UN Inform­ation Centre Vittorio Cammarota in Islamabad recently.

According to the itinerary, handball event will take place at Agriculture University, Faisalabad, on April 2.

Badminton, table tennis, baseball and football will be held at Lahore from April 3 to 6 while rock climbing will be held at Margalla Hills Islamabad.

Karachi will host the basketball event between Sindh and HEC teams at Benazir Sports Complex on April 9 while the activities culminates with the staging of volleyball match bewteen Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata teams at the PSB Coaching Centre, Peshawar, on April 16.
