Lahore Division seals 65 gold, 39 silver & 24 bronze to crown Punjab Games 2019 Champions

Lahore division, with 2637 points and an aggregate of 128 medals including 65 gold, 39 silver and 24 bronze medals, won the Punjab Games 2019 trophy.

Director General Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar awarded the winners’ trophy to Lahore Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser at the colourful closing ceremony at Punjab Stadium on Saturday. The runners-up and third position trophies were also given to Faisalabad and Gujranwala DSOs on this occasion.

Faisalabad division got second position on medals table with 2105.5 points and a tally of 102 medals including 21 gold, 44 silver and 37 bronze medals during the 4-day sports extravaganza. Gujranwala division is placed third with 1212.5 points and 56 medals including 14 gold, 16 silver and 26 bronze medals.

Ali Ahmed of Sahiwal and Faiqa Riaz were declared fastest male and female athletes of the games and were awarded trophies and cash prize of Rs 50,000 each. Young Azlan Khan was given trophy and cash prize of Rs 25000 of best swimmer in the Punjab Games.

DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar also awarded souvenirs to Director Admin Javed Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, PbOA Secretary Idris Haider Kh, all Divisional and District Sports Officers and other top officials for their remarkable contribution during the Punjab Games.

Addressing the closing ceremony, DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar thanked all the participants, guest delegations from other provinces, Punjab Olympic Association for their notable role in the success of historic Punjab Games.

“We got several promising athletes like Ali Ahmed, Faiqa Riaz and Azlan Khan, who clinched 6 gold medals in swimming, from the Punjab Games. Overall these were magnificent games. Definitely there were some loopholes during the 4-day games but we will try our best rectify our mistakes in the next edition of the games” DG Sports Punjab Nadeem Sarwar said.

Punjab Sports Minister Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, in a message, also congratulated Sports Board Punjab, Punjab Olympic Association and all the participants on the successful holding of Punjab Games.

The colourful closing ceremony was also attended by a large number of male and female players, sports officials and office-bearers of various Punjab sports associations. Young boys and girls also presented excellent aerobics and gymnastic performances during the closing ceremony.

Secretary General Punjab Olympic Association Idris Haider Khawaja, Director Admin Javed Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Divisional and District Sports Officers and a large number players and officials were also present at the grand closing ceremony.
