PU women claim athletics title

Punjab University secured 212 points to secure the overall trophy in the female section in the All-Pakistan Inter-university Athletics Championships here at the Qayyum Sports Complex on Thursday.

Punjab University were followed by Lahore College for Women University (second position,144 points) while Sargodha University grabbed third position (142).

Meanwhile, Musarrat Ali of University of Sargodha was declared best athlete as she grabbed six individual gold medals.

Musarrat clinched gold in 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m, 5,000m, 10,000m and 1,500m events.

In the 5,000m held on Thursday, Musarrat won gold, followed by Bisma of LCWU and Hina of Punjab University.

The discus throw title was claimed by Sadia Khalid, followed by Qadil of Sargodha and Asma of LCWU.

In the male events, University of Central Punjab and PU tied the first position with 290 points each, Government College University Lahore came second (65 points) and Peshawar University third (64).

VC Peshawar University, the chief guest, gave away trophies, cash prizes and certificates to the position holders.
