25-Member Pakistani Nomads to feature in World Nomad Games 2018

Pakistani 25 member Nomad squad is one of the 77 countries taking part in the 3rd World Nomad Games which are currently underway in Kyrgyzstan from 2nd to 8th September.

More than 3,000 athletes from 77 countries are participating in ongoing World Nomad Games 2018 in Kyrgyzstan. Pakistan is one of the 77 countries taking part in the third World Nomad Games which are currently underway in Kyrgyzstan. 

Some 1,500 performers took part in the opening ceremony of the third World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, on September 2. Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov hosted foreign heads of state at the lavish event. The biannual games are held to "revive and preserve the culture of nomadic civilizations" according to the organizers.

The events to be contested in the tournament includes:

  1. Mas-wrestling 
  2. Arm-wrestling
  3. Endurance
  4. Flat racing
  5. Horse back archery
  6. Sumo
  7. Tug of war


The World Nomad Games are held after every two years as a way to develop an ethnosport and ethnoculture movement. It aims to revive, develop and preserve people’s ethnoculture, diversity and originality to boost a tolerant and open relationship between people.

Kyrgyz news agency Kabar had earlier reported that Pakistan had expressed its wishes to participate in the multi-nation event. Furqan Ahmad Khan, secretary general of the Pakistan Mas-Wrestling Federation, had met Kyrgyz Ambassador Erik Beishembiev and discussed the possibility of the participation of the 25-member Pakistani sports team in the event.
