Faizan, Toba, Haris, Sharjeel shines in NBP Ranking Snooker Championship

Unseeded Muhammad Faizan, Asif Toba, Haris Tahir and Sharjeel Mahmood win the 2nd day preliminary round matches of 10th NBP Ranking Snooker Championship 2018 at the NBP Sports Complex,Karachi.

 
President & CEO National Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Saeed Ahmad inaugurated Independence Day 10th Ranking Snooker Championship at NBP Sports Complex and distributed cheques of Donations and contributions to different deserving individuals, Educational institutions & NGOs such MALC Karachi, IBA Sukkur, NBF Shaheed Benazirabad etc under the NBP CSR.

He also gave trophies to winner and runner up team of 3rd inter departmental T-20 on this occasion.

Sharjeel Mehmood of Khyber Pakhtun­khwa chalked up a sensational break of 131, the highest of the first two days. Seeded Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Bilal, Babar Masih, Majid Ali and Zulfiqar Abdul Qadir registered victories over their respective rivals to stay on course for claiming a spot in the knockout phase, starting with pre-quarter-finals.

It is pertinent to mention that Sharjeel had lost his opening match to Sindh’s Zulfiqar A. Qadir on Sunday.

On the second day Faizan, a local cueist, compiled the first century break of the competition and shocked fifth seed Ahsan Javaid. Toba stunned sixth seed Sultan Muhammad and Haris caused an upset when he routed seventh seed Ali Haider. 

Former national champion Mohammad Asif Toba, Asian junior under-21 runner-up Haris Tahir and Mohammad Faizan created quite a stir by upsetting seeded cueists after playing two matches. Ahsan and Ali Haider lost both their matches. Babar, Majid and Sultan won and lost a game each.

Top seeded Asif, the 2012 world champion, made it two in two by overpowering Ian Mark John 4-1. Second seed Bilal outgunned the struggling Muhammad Sajjad, a former world number two, 4-2.

Third seed Babar made no mistake while thrashing Muhammad Umar in straight frames. Fourth seed Majid had to bring all his expertise into play to outwit Musaddiq Mahmood of Islamabad 4-3.Eighth seed Zulfiqar extended his unbeaten run in the tournament by defeating Usman Ahmed 4-2.
