Pakistan finishes second in South Asian Judo Championship

Pakistan takes second spot in the 8th edition of South Asian Senior Judo Championship power show at Kathmandu, Nepal.

An extraordinary performance by Pakistani men, women judokas brought Pakistan once again in spotlight as Green Shirts clinched the second position in the 8th South Asian Senior Judo Championship 2018. Pakistan won 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze in the individual categories while bags second spot in men and women events to take overall second position in the competition.

On the first day of championship, Pakistan pockets 2 gold and 2 silver medals in the men and women categories respectively. Shah Hussain and Qasir Khan Afridi clinched gold for Pakistan while Maryam and Humaira Ashiq secured silver medals.

On the second day of championship, Pakistani Judoka Baber hussain won silver medal in -66kg category while Nadeem Akram ended on Bronze in -73kg category. Muhammad Abbas also won Bronze in -81kg category. In the women -78kg category, Beenish Khan earned Bronze medal.

On conclusion of all individual events, Pakistan remained second with 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Pakistani Judokas won Silver medal in the men while secured Bronze in the women team events.

In the first round of team event, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh while outplayed Nepal in the semifinal to take India in the final match. Pakistani Judokas challenged hard but secured the silver medal against India with the ration of 3:2.

Nadeem Akram and Shah Hussain started big for Pakistan but Qaiser could not overcome his opponent and lost his fight that pushed Pakistan on second slot in the men’s team event.

In the women team event, India defeated Pakistan in the semifinal to secure its position in the final, while in the Bronze medal match, Pakistan outlasted Bangladesh to secure the third position in the championship.

The President and Secretary of Pakistan Judo Federation, Col Junaid Alam and Mansoor Ahmed along with the entire members of Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) extended their heartiest congratulations to team Pakistan and also thanked Pakistan Sports Board for their support for Pakistan Judo. If Pakistan Judo team will get opportunity, the team will showcase their best performance in the upcoming Asian Games.
