Haris, Naseem continue unbeaten run in Asian Snooker Championship

World junior reigning champion Mohammad Naseem Akhtar and Haris Tahir continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing 19th Asian under-21 snooker championship at Yangon, Myanmar.

Mohammad Naseem Akhtar faced hard time to beat Myanmar’s Thaw Zin Htet. His opponent starched the match to the limits but resilient Naseem won by 4-3. Naseem was down by 3 games but he registered a strong comeback and won next four frames to win the match. Final score remains as 26-78, 48-51, 44-79, 65-32, 57-49, 73-1, 54-16.

Haris Tahir faced the challenge of Iran’s Amin Sanjael and he again turned the table 4-3 in a fully starched battle by 54-26, 76-12, 46-64, 89-11, 32-81, 39-79, 61-49 including two half-century breaks of 52 and 89 in the second and fourth frames. Haris won the first-two frames but he lost third frame but he recovered quickly as he won the fourth frame to take 3-1 lead. Amin Sanjael defeated Haris in fifth and sixth frames to level the match 3-3 as Haris lost concentration but he kept his cool and outplayed Irani opponent in the seventh frame to win the match by 4-3.

Third Pakistani cueist Shahbaz who lost his match in his only appearance against Myanmar’s cueist but he came back strongly in his second match against Hong Kong’s Ching Chiu Poon and outpaced him 4-1 by 61-48, 7-70, 55-11, 93-1, 76-32. He shocks opponent with a remarkable break of 70 in the fourth frame.

Pakistani cueists to enjoy a rest day today in the event and will resume their league engagements the following day.
