Waseem Khatari seals Scrabble title

Waseem Khatari secured top spot in the signature 8th Ranking Scrabble Tournament at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi.

Waseem Khatri won the Signature 8th Ranking Scrabble Tournament after a long gap. Khatri finished on top in the premier category with 7.5 wins and a spread of 944 to improve his national rating but he is still trailing behind Pakistan’s No.1 Moiz Baig in the national rating.  

Javed Shamim was runner up with seven wins and Shahzaib Khatri finished third with 5.52 wins. Veteran Hassan Ali won the master category title with eight wins and a spread of +694 while another senior player Abdul Wahid celebrated his birthday in style by grabbing third position.

Sandwiched between the two senior players was the 10-year-old Monis Khan who surprised everyone by grabbing the second position in a very tough field. Monis, the reigning under-10 world champion is being seen these days as a rising star.

An outstanding performance by Wali Mohammad Khubaib was witnessed in the advance category. Khubaib won all his nine matches with a spread of +807 while young Muzammil Asim and Amna Khushnood finished second and third, respectively.
