National Sports event commences in Punjab University

A 5 day long National sports event has started in Punjab University new campus Lahore.

Punjab University (PU), Higher Education commission of Pakistan and The Educationist jointly organized 5 day long sports event in the gymnasium of Punjab University new campus Lahore.

Around 1000 player of 100 teams from different universities, colleges and schools are taking part in the event from all over Pakistan. The competition includes Hockey, Cricket, Football, table tennis, Volleyball, Badminton, Swimming, Athletics, Tug-of-war, Softball and Kabaddi.

The inaugural and flag past ceremony was held in gymnasium where PU director sports Dr. Zafar Iqbal butt, In-charge Institute of Communication studies Dr. Noshina Saleem, Assistant Professor Shabbir Sarwar, Deputy Director Sports Zubair Butt, Director External Relations The Educationist AR Sajid, coaches, managers and a large number of players were present.

While addressing the opening ceremony, Dr. Zafar Iqbal Butt said that sports and healthy activities are lacking in our society but such competitions provide platform to the players to show their potential. In her speech, Dr. Noshina Saleem said that the sports is giving a good massage as a large number of participants came from the remote areas of Pakistan.

Shabbir Sarwar has said that sports can play positive role to get rid of the culture of intolerance from our society. Sports can help players learn the art of winning and losing and losers do appreciate winners showing high level of tolerance. He thanked Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir and sports department for extending all-out support for organizing the event.

Earlier, players from Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Malakand, Bhakkar, Gujrat, Jhelum, Kasur, Islamabad, Pattoki, Sarai Alamgir and Kot Radha Kishan displayed their flags and presented their team delegations on the venue. Special children are also competing normal players in these competitions which would continue until December 15.
