Pakistan Triumphs Over Canada 5-4 in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

The Green Shirts' next match is against New Zealand on May 10.

 

Pakistan continued their successful run in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup by defeating Canada 5-4 in Ipoh, Malaysia. Mahmood Abu scored two goals from penalty corners in the 28th and 29th minutes, equalizing the score to 2-2 after Canada took a double lead in the 17th minute.

Rana Waheed Ashraf, who scored the winning goal in the previous match, found the net again in the 44th minute, followed by Ali Ghazanfar guiding the ball into the goal a minute later, extending Pakistan's lead to 5-2.

Pakistan's forwards displayed exceptional skill, breaking through Canada's defence with their fast pace and adept passing and dodging. However, Canada fought back, with Davis Sean and Buttar Avjot scoring goals in the 45th and 50th minute respectively, narrowing the lead to 5-4.

In the last quarter, both teams battled fiercely to maintain their positions, but it was Pakistan who emerged victorious at full-time, securing another win in the tournament. With this victory, Pakistan remains unbeaten in the 30th Azlan Shah Hockey Cup 2024.

The Green Shirts' next match is against New Zealand on May 10 at the same venue.
