PGF International Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2020 from 21 February

PGF International Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2020 will be held from Fri 21st to Sun 23rd February 2020 at Defence RAYA Golf Club Lahore.

Countries most prominent amateur female golfers are ready to participate in the event which also includes golfers from eight visiting countries which include Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Iran, Uganda, Afghanistan and Qatar

Ladies golf in Pakistan has come leaps and bounds since 2015 due to the supportive attitude of the previous and current presidents of the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF). The exclusive all female amateur golf event is the brainchild of PGF president Gen. Zaheer who in 2016 instituted the holding of an annual, exclusive, Ladies Golf Championship at the national level.

As a result the 1st PGF Ladies Amateur Golf Championship was held at Lahore under Dr Asma Afzal Shami. The massive participation made the event a huge success. Since then, similar championships have been held successfully in Karachi in 2017 under Mrs Tahira Raza and in Islamabad in 2018 under Ms Zeenat Ayesha. 

In March 2018 Bangladesh and Thailand became the first international participants in the 3rd PGF Ladies Amateur Golf Championship held at Islamabad.

Based on the lessons learnt from that experiment, it was decided to hold a full-fledged International Ladies Golf Championship in Lahore in 2019 which had to be rescheduled to February 2020 due to ailing political situation with India. 

As this will be a major step in propagating our county’s soft image internationally, the first lady of Pakistan, Begum Samina Alvi, has consented to be the chief guest at its prize distribution ceremony.
