Shoaib & Subhan in last-8 of Tajammul & Dilawar Abbas Memorial ITF Juniors Championship 2020
Subhan Bin Salik caused a major upset when he outclassed third seed Matteo Covato of Italy in straight sets at Tajammul & Dilawar Abbas Memorial ITF Juniors Championship 2020 being played at PTF Complex, Islamabad.
On the second day of Tajammul & Dilawar Abbas Memorial ITF Juniors Championship 2020, promising Subhan Bin Salik caused a major upset when he outclassed third seed Matteo Covato of Italy in straight sets at the PTF Complex, Islamabad.
Subhan recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory to qualify for the quarter-final, while another local boy Mohammad Shoaib, after crushing Romanian Iustin Belea 6-3, 6-0 also made the last eight.
The only Pakistani girl in the main round, Zoha Asim, too registered her victory in the first round against Malaysia’s Sie Ding Chai in a thirlling three-set match 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Zoha started off with immense confidence and took an 2-1 lead but in the next game she was unable to maintain it and Chai leveled the match 4-4.
The local girl again build up the lead by holding her nintth game and broke Chai’s 11th to win the first set 6-4. Chai won the second set by breaking Zoha’s fourth, sixth and eighth game to level the scores. Zoha hit six double faults in the second set but won the final set at 6-2 by breaking Chai’s first, third and seventh games.
Dorsa Gherghai of Iran and Turkey’s Leyla Nilufer Elmas also played a nail-biting fixture with Cherghai winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 eventually. In the boys’ doubles event, an unseeded Turkish pair of Birtan Duran and Kerem Ozlale also ground out a stunning 7-6 (2), 3-6, 10-7 win the pair of Russia’s Nikita Bortinichek and Azerbaijan’s Haktan Garayev.
