Sindh Amateur Golf tees off today

The 16th edition of Sindh Amateur Golf Championship explode into action here at the picturesque Karachi Golf Club from Friday at 8.00am with around 150 golfers competing for different titles.

Besides the main amateur crown, the event is being played in seniors, veterans, ladies, juniors under-18 and 14 categories under the auspices of Sindh Golf Association (SGA).

“Unfortunately, we will be missing defending champion Ghazanafar Mahmood because of the hospitalisation of his wife,” SGA President Asad I.A. Khan said while announcing the details of the championship.

He said to groom the young talent, junior categories will also be the part of the competition. Amateur event will be contesetd over 54 holes while seniors, juniors, ladies will take part in 36-holes contest and veterans in 18-hole competition.

In the absence of Ghazanfar, Rehman Mani and Robin Bagh of Royal Palm Club Lahore along with Ahmed Baig, who won a car for hole-in-one in DHA Golf recently, will be strong contenders for the amateur title alongwith Khalid Mahmood of Rawalpindi, Zuhaib Asif, Waseem Rana, Mansoor Teli, Ahmed Ali, Sajid Khan, Nadeem Aslam, Owais Intisar and Saim Shazli.

Former KGC captain Sohail Rana would be defending his seniors title with strong contention from Sajid Sharif, Salman Shikoh, Umar Bangash, Umar Farooq, Asad I.A. Khan and Ayaz Pir.

As many as 20 ladies would be battling for the women’s title including Anna Gill and Zaibunnisa from Royal Palm Club, Lahore. According to break-up provided by the organisers, amateurs (56), seniors (40), juniors (21), veterans (24) and ladies (20) will be featuring in the championship.
