Nazeer takes PPL in Challenge Cup quarters

Captain Pakistan Petroleum Limited steers his team to the quarterfinals of Challenge Cup played at KPT Sports Complex, Karachi.

 

Debutants Pakistan petroleum Limited has qualified for the quarterfinal of the ongoing Challenge cup football tournament after defeating Karachi Port Trust (KPT) by 1-0 in their last Group E match.

Nazeer was the lone scorer as he hit the winning goal for PPL in the 12th minute of opening half through a corner kick. Earlier, KPT goalkeeper Sanaullah saved a goal possible goal effort with a timely punch but Nazeer was right on target the other time. Zubair of KPT post a couple of attacks to PPL goal post but he was off the target both the times.

PPL was leading 1-0 at halftime. A tight game was seen between both the teams but KPT failed to level the score with the chances came their way. “We could not avail ourselves of the chances. That damaged our cause,” KPT coach Zafar Majeed said after the match.

Zahid Hameed applauded the efforts of the boys and said their hard work paid off well. “Our team did a tough job,” Zahid added. In another match between the teams of Group A, Ashraf Suger Mills (ASM) and Falcon FC at the All Brothers Football Ground in Malir, both the teams were held in a goalless draw and that puts ASM in to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
