Ahmed lifts Faldo Golf championship title

Lahore based upcoming star Ahmed Baig finally outsmarted his opponents to clinch the title he was carving for and won the 7th Faldo Challenge Pakistan Golf Championship at Karachi DHA club.

Ahmed Baig the fast-rising golfer played smartly and stunned the experienced players in the line of title and won with impressive score of 11-underpar. Runner up Syed Saim Shali Azhar remained too far from him in the title race as he ended with 19 strokes behind.

Ahmed splendidly played on the opening day of championship and scored 66 and continued displaying his skills on windy second day when the other golfers find themselves struggling, he stroked with 69. He once again continue his superb run on the third day with score of 70 as he ended with a total of 205 (-11) in three days that cleared way for the championship title. After winning the championship Ahmed Baig said “it was a good experience for me and I am regularly playing golf so it paid me off in the championship”. He added that now he will participate in Asian tour and PGA tours worldwide.

U-21 girls title was won by Airmen Golf Club’s Aania Farooq with 235 score who defeated Rimsha Ijaz by one stroke. Rimsha ended third lagging 5 strokes behind Aania.

Lahore’s Damil Attaullah won the boys Under-16 category with 236 score while Ali Mehmood from DHA club ended on second. Muhammad Saqib of Lahore Garrison Golf Club won the under-18 championship, Hamna Amjad won girls under-16 title. Total 65 golfers participated from all over Pakistan and 7 of them were girls.

Winner of the championship will represent Pakistan at the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final to be held at the Laguna Lang Co Golf Club in Danang, Vietnam, in March this year.
