Pakistan wrestlers to face no hurdles in getting Indian visas for Asian Championships

Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) chief has said that the Pakistani wrestlers would not face any problem in getting visas for the Asian Championships slated to be held in New Delhi from February 18-23.

Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has said that Pakistani wrestlers would not face any problem in getting visas for the Asian Championships which is slated to be held in New Delhi from February 18-23.

Brij has already brought the attention of foreign minister Jaishankar about visa issues of Pakistani wrestlers.

He said during a news conference that the United World Wrestling (UWW) had written to them that no problems in visa should be there for any country.

A few days ago Indian High Commission had refused to receive visa application of four Pakistani wrestlers and two officials for the tour.

“Yes, today the WFI chief promised that Pakistan would be given visas,” a Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) official said. “The WFI has also sent an email to us about it and has assured us that visas will be given to us on emergency basis,” he added.

Although the Asian Championship does not act as Olympic qualifiers, federations could field wrestlers in Olympic qualifiers in only those weight categories in which they field wrestlers in the continental event.
