Talha Talib makes 2 new National records at Asian Weightlifting Championships 2019

Pakistan’s greenhorn weightlifter, Talha Talib became the first Pakistani to top his group table with making 2 new records on National level in the on-going 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships at Ningbo in China.

The emerging Pakistan’s star weightlifter, Talha Talib, with his great skills and great performance, he managed to made two (2) new National records: one in Clean Jerk and one In Total. 

The Asian Weightlifting Championships are the best and biggest weightlifting competition of Asian Continent into the current year and is the first Asian qualification event, Gold Level, for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and there were participants from 28 countries and 415 delegates, officials and athletes, who came together in this championship.

Gujranwala born this Pakistani weightlifter, Talha Talib recorded a 304 kilogram total in 67 kilogram me Group B competitions as he lifted 140 KG in snatch and 164 in clean and jerk to become the first Pakistani weightlifter to top a group at this level. He finished at eighth (8th) spot overall as Group A competitors did well.

In a Facebook post, to his performance and efforts, Talha said: 

"I Missed Junior World Record Lift, that is 143 KG Snatch but In Sha Allah I will do it very soon. Thanks To Allah Almighty, my Father, Coach, Ali Aslam and Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) for everything."

Talha will be hoping for his medal after Group A finishes their event in the 67 KG today, while according to the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) official, Rashed Malik, the country is expecting a bronze medal at least.

“Talha has done brilliantly, there is no doubt he has made his mark among the top weightlifters in the continent,” Malik said.

Malik has been closely looking after Talha too and the second participant for Pakistan, Nooh Dastagir Butt, who will be taking on the competition in +109 kg. Nooh will be going against top weightlifters in the heaviest category between the last two days of the championship, which will end on 28th April.

“With these lifts Talha has created a new national record in clean and jerk, while beating Lalrinnunga is also something big, because Talha had fallen behind him at the South Asian level. We are hoping for the bronze medal at least, as the final overall rankings will be released after Group A finishes their competition in the 67 KG.” Malik added.

Talha have also competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and won a bronze medal in the 62 KG category as he is the Pakistani national champion in the 62 KG category. He was also a gold medalist at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championships in Penang.
