WAPDA crown champion of 1st CM Punjab Gold Cup Women National Power-Lifting C'ship

As many as 100 power-lifters took part in the first ever Chief Minister Punjab Gold Cup Women National Power-Lifting Championship which concluded successfully with WAPDA team winning the title at Nishtar Park Sports Complex, Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Pakistan Power-Lifting Federation in joint efforts with Sports Board Punjab (SBP) organized the Chief Minister Punjab Gold Cup Women National Power-Lifting Championship for the first time in history in which power-lifters belonging to several departments and provinces of the country participated. Teams who took part in this championship included: Pakistan Army, Police, Railways, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The competitions were held in eight (8) different weight classes of 47 KG, 52 KG, 57 KG, 63 KG, 69 KG, 75 KG, 84 KG and +84 KG. Power-lifters from their respective teams were seen competing against each other with all their might for the title win of Squad, Bench Press and Dead Lift contests.

Among 11 participating teams, WAPDA came out to stand at the top spot as the teams baaged six gold medals and two silver medals from a total of eight weight categories. WAPDA was declared the champion and title winner of the championship when the team made it to accumulate a total of 110 points against which no other team was able to match the score. Rabia Razzaq from WAPDA was also awarded with the title of the Strongest Woman of the event.

WAPDA team was followed by Railways on runners-up spot with them accumulating a total of 82 points as the team collected two gold, four silver and two bronze medals. This championship featured a total of about 100 power-lifters belonging to 11 different teams from all over the country competed in the championship.

Malik Umer Farooq, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab for Youth and Sports was the Chairman of the organizing committee for this championship.
