PSL 2019 Points Table: Which Teams Can Qualify and How

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 bid farewell to the UAE leg in a fantastic manner with a crunch game between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars last night. The teams will now head to Karachi for the Pakistan leg and the action resumes from 9th March.

With enough time on our hands, let’s analyze the PSL points table and see where does team stands. As the table suggests, Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi have already qualified for the top-four finish whereas Multan Sultans are mathematically out of the race. Three teams are now chasing for 3rd and 4th finish in PSL 2019 and the race is between Islamabad United, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. 

Let’s take a look at their fixtures and how these teams can qualify.

Islamabad United:

The trophy holders are finding it difficult in PSL 2019 after a run of bad games. The team has not found its rhythm and has struggled to deliver commanding performances.

Here is the record of the team so far:

  • Lost: 5
  • Points: 8 (10 points maximum)
  • NRR: -0.139 
Islamabad United has only one remaining game which is against Lahore Qalandars, who pose a significant threat to their chances of qualification. Hence winning against them will be extremely crucial.

Karachi Kings :

The Kings have had yet another disappointing season despite making a number of changes to their squad. However, one bright side to their performance is that likes of Babar Azam and Colin Munro are yet to hit top gear.

Their record thus far is as following:

  • Won: 4
  • Lost: 4
  • Points: 8 (12 points maximum)
  • NRR: -0.459 
The remaining matches for Karachi Kings are against Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi, two of the best teams of PSL 2019.

Lahore Qalandars

After a season dominated by injury, Lahore Qalandars still stand a chance to qualify for the top-four. The performance against Peshawar Zalmi, where they reduced the opposition to 20 for 5 should give them hope.

However, they need to ensure that they close down the games quicker and approach them with venom.

Here’s how the Qalandars’ season has gone thus far:

  • Lost: 5
  • Points: 6 (10 points maximum)
