Talha Talib makes 3 National records by winning Gold & Silver in 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship

Pakistan’s Talha Talib won 1 gold and 2 silver medals in the ongoing 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship which ais being staged from 8th to 14th Dec. in Cairo, Egypt.

As many as 114 athletes representing 20 different nations are taking part in the fifth edition of ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship which are organized under the supervision of the International Weightlifting Federation and in cooperation with the Weightlifting Federation of Egypt under the umbrella of OIC (represented by the ISSF). 

Participating countries include: Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Libya, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Madagascar, Tunisia, Russia, Kosovo, Thailand, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, UAE, Cameroon and Algeria.

Head of ISSF Technical Affairs, Mr. Ashraf S. DAHROUG said that the Championship will be held for 7 days, and will be a qualification event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The emerging Pakistan’s star weightlifter Talha Talib made three new National records as he won three medals at the 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship. One Gold medal in Snatch by lifting a total weight of 136 KG in 67 KG category while 1 Silver in Clean And Jerk by lifting 155 KG weight. He also won another Silver medal in Total by being successful in lifting 291 KG of total weight.

In the 67 KG weight category, as Pakistan's Talha emerged the winner and clinched the Gold medal, the silver medal was claimed by an Egyptian weightlifter as he lifted 293 KG weight and the bronze medal winner was Saudi weightlifter by lifting 273 KG of weight. 

At this accomplishment, he thanked The Almighty, his Father, Muhammad Islam Natiq, his Coach, Ali Aslam and Pakistan Weightlifting Fedaration (PWF) for always being his supporters throughout the journey. He also said that is trying his best to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and has to go through more qualifying rounds to finally be selected for the mega games. 

Gujranwala born this Pakistani weightlifter have also competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and won a bronze medal in the 62 kg category as he is the Pakistani national champion in the 62kg category. He was also a gold medalist at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Weightlifting Championships in Penang.
