23rd National Junior Age-Group Swimming Championship concludes successfully

A total of 120 swimmers took part in the 23rd National Junior Age-Group Swimming Championship in which Sindh wins the most medals and claimed the victory at Adil Khan Swimming Pool in Peshawar.

Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swimming Association (KPSA) jointly organized the 23rd edition of National Junior Age-Group Swimming Championship that featured a total of 120 swimmers from 3 different nations who were seen in water battling for the ultimate medal and prize win.

Participants from following cities took part:
1. Punjab
2. Sindh and
3. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Sindh division from the very first day of the championship started dominating and led with five gold, two silver and three bronze medals followed by Punjab winning three gold, five silver, four bronze medals while Maaz Khan from the host city was the sole swimmer to gain a silver medal.

MNA Shoukat Ali inaugurated this mega event along with President KP Swimming Association, Asif Orakzai. Secretary KP Swimming Association, Salahuddin Ahmad and Member Executive Committee of the Pakistan Swimming Federation, Veena Malik were also present on the opening day of the championship.

However the third day of the championship saw Khyber Pakhtunkhwa making a comeback into the championship through Muhammad Ahmad who splendidly made another new national record in the 100 meters Back Stroke by crossing the distance in 15.63 seconds.

Junaid Khan, Director General Sports was the chief guest on the final day of the championship.

DG Sports Junaid Khan appreciated the efforts of KP Swimming Association in holding this event and said that all resources would be utilized to provide best available playing fields and good coaching and training to the swimmers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that funds have already been allocated to make the swimming pool an all-weather for the upcoming swimmers who excelled despite lack of practice due to cold water. Heating system and touch-pad facilities would also be included in the rehabilitation work at the Adil Khan Swimming Pool so the pool would be equipped even to hold international swimming events.

12 year old Muhammad Ahmad Durrani from KP was awarded with 1 million cash prize for creating two new national records in 50 Breast Stroke and 100m Back Stroke who also won two gold medals for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Director General Sports, Junaid Khan also gave away medals to the position holders as well as the cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for the silver medalists and Rs. 7000 for the bronze medalists.
