Talha Talib makes national record in weightlifting at 18th Asian Games

Talha Talib could only manage 7th rank in the 62kg weightlifting event in the ongoing 18th Asian Games but made a National Record by lifting a total 287kg.

 

Pakistan men’s weightlifter Talha Talib managed to secure seventh rank in 62-Kilogram class of 18th Asian Games by lifting a total of 287 kg. Talha lifted his best 133 kg in the snatch on the 3rd attempt and 154 kg in Clean & Jerk.

In his first attempt in the Snatch, Talha lifted 127 kg and successfully increased it to 131 kg on the second attempt. For the 3rd attempt, Talha raised the bar to 133kg and successfully achieved it.

In the Clean & Jerk category, Talha started with lifting 148 kg on the first attempt and successfully challenged himself with 152kg and 154kg on the following two attempts.

Talha's performance was well below the Gold Medal performance from Eko Yuli Irawan of Indonesia who surpassed everyone with a considerable margin by lifting a total of 311kg (141kg + 170kg). Van Vihn Trinh of Vietnam won Silver by lifting 299kg (133kg + 166Kg) while Adkhanjon Ergashev of Uzbekistan was just 1kg behind to settle for Bronze Medal with a total lifted weight of 298kg (136Kg + 162Kg).

Talha's performance at the Asian Games 2018 is remarkable in a number of ways as he made a new National record in the course, and also now holds to distinction to be participating in 62Kg weight category for the last time as the International Weightlifting Federation has decided to abolish the 62 kg category and replace it with 67kg.

Earlier in the year at Common Wealth (Gold Cost) Games, Talha won Bronze Medal for Pakistan by lifting 283kg (132kg + 151kg) in 62kg category. Pakistan’s well-trained and energetic weightlifter had won a gold medal and Best Youth Weightlifter at the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Championships. And a silver medal at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.
