Uzbek Denis wins against injured Aisam in first Davis cup tie

Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan wins the first Asia-Oceania Group-I Davis cup tie against Aisam ul Huq as he could not continue the match due to hand injury.

 

The interesting yet exciting first set continued for 1 hour 17 minutes in which Uzbek Denis Istomin outplayed Aisam ul Haq by 7-6(17) at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Initially both the players held their serves and the match moved into tie break 6-6. On the tie-break, Aisam won the first point but Denis won back to back 2 points to take 2-1 lead. Aisam again leveled the score but Uzbek won another point to take lead once again.

It could be anybodies game and Aisam won back to back 3 points to make it 5-3 in his favor but once again leveled by Denis on 5-5. Both the players not only hold their serves but also broke back each other’s serves as the score was once again equalized on 17-17 but at that stage Denis won back to back 2 points to win the first set by 7-6(17).

In the second set, both the players held their first serves but then it was all Denis show as he breaks the 5th serve of Aisam and then holds his own serve to take 4-1 lead in the second set. At that stage, Aisam was not looking comfortable and lately he was forced to retire due to hand injury and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan won the second set and the match by 7-6(17), 4-1.
