Pakistani wrestlers bag medals in Commonwealth Wrestling Championship

Pakistani wrestlers grabbed 10 bronze, 1 silver medal in in Commonwealth Wrestling Championship held at Johannesburg, South Africa.

Pakistani ace Muhammad Inam after ending second in his weight group on the completion of his matches in Johannesburg, South Africa won the silver medal. Inam went down for fighting Three-6 against his opponent of Indian Somweer Singh in his first bout, settled the rating by beating Ajrudeen Airudeen of India 6-Zero to end second in the group. Muhammad Bilal earned bronze medal after defeating Canada’s Darthe Capellan in 57kg weight class with rating of 9-Four.

Ghulam Ghous from Pakistan also won the bronze medal after winning 2 out of 4 bouts to secure third in the group in 70kg weight class. He ousted South African Rudi Fouche and Britain’s Charlie James Bowling however lost against Indian Amit Kumar and Arun Kumar.

Pakistan’s Umair Ahmed overpowered South African Hein Jackobus 11-Zero in the 86kg weight class to win bronze medal bout. Pakistan won its 4th bronze through Tayyab Raza in 97kg weight class. Raza defeated New Zealander Samuel Stephen Belkin by 10-zaro in 97kg weight class.

Earlier, Pakistani wrestlers won 6 bronze medals in their respective weight categories of the Greco-Roman wrestling competition. Bilal won bronze in 60kg category while Abdul Wahab in 63kg, Mudasser in 67kg, Ghulam Ghaus in 72kg, Ameer Ahmed in 87kg and Ahmed Butt in 130kg category.

On the other hand, Abdul Rehman secured fourth position in the 77kg category, while Tayyab Raza secured fifth position in 97kg. The three-day event was held at Carnival City Big Top Arena in Brakpan, South Africa. Wrestlers from Canada, United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, and Nigeria participated in the wrestling championship.
