Senator Mushtaq Lashes Out at Govt

Police officers at the National Bank Arena in Karachi prevented fans from waving the Palestine flag and chanting slogans in solidarity with Palestine during a PSL match

Recently, police authorities at the National Bank Arena in Karachi prevented fans from demonstrating solidarity with Palestine during a PSL match by waving Palestine's flag and chanting slogans in the stands.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, representing the Jamaat-e-Islami in the Senate of Pakistan and hailing from KPK, expressed frustration at the lack of freedom to express solidarity with Palestine in Pakistan's current political climate. He shared a video on Twitter condemning the government's actions, labelling it as disrespectful and oppressive.

The incident occurred during the Eliminator 1 match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, where police officers confiscated Palestine flags from fans and ordered them not to chant slogans. Despite the orders, fans protested vehemently, chanting slogans even more defiantly.

Senator Ahmed's tweet gained significant traction across platforms, resonating with fans just before the April 2, 2024, Senate elections. Similar incidents have recurred, such as fans being prevented from bringing flags to the Jinnah Stadium during a football match between Pakistan and Tajikistan in November and during ongoing PSL matches.
