Defending champions register huge wins

Defending champions in the men’s and women’s categories, Pakistan Army and Sindh respectively outclassed their opponents on the opening day of the 15th National Netball Championship here at the Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex

 

Defending champions in the men’s and women’s categories, Pakistan Army and Sindh respectively outclassed their opponents on the opening day of the 15th National Netball Championship here at the Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

In the men’s competition, Army hammered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 42-7 as Wapda and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) grabbed convincing wins.

Wapda thrashed Fata 46-7 and PAF overpowered Punjab 31-14 while in a close contest, Sindh scraped past Pakistan Police 27-24.

Sindh’s women, though, were in inspired form as they taught Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a netball lesson in a 45-0 romp with strikers Qurat-ul-Ain and Anum Salam starring.

Sindh also defeated Wapda 24-16.

Army’s women also won big, outclassing Fata 32-0 while Punjab defeated Islamabad 29-1.

Islamabad bounced back from that defeat with a 13-4 win over Fata while Wapda and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were given a walkover against LUMS.

Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Federal Special Secretary, Ministry of Interior was the chief guest on the opening ceremony and declared the championship open amid fanfare . Director General Pakistan Sports Board, Dr. Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, President, Pakistan Netball Federation Mudassar Arain and other officials were also present on the occasion.
