'War It Is' outruns rivals to win Ravi Cup in Lahore

Colt, 'War It Is' outran his competition to win the Ravi Cup during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Lahore Racecourse on Sunday. 

The 20 to 100 favourite ridden by Aamir Pervez, went on to win convincingly by three lengths over stable-mate Conquest to land the first two positions for jubilant owner Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud and trainer Shahid Rehman.

The colt from Irish sire Nathaniel out of USA mare Kalifi followed Conquest in the early stages of the race. Fellow colt Welcome Home, who was backed for the second place, put up a dismal show finishing third, another six lengths behind. 

Sunday’s contest was the first outing of War It Is as four-year-old. 

Makhdum’s both colts are the strong contenders for the Pakistan Derby set on March 8. 

A thunderous applause from the crowd marked the end of the ceremony.
