Sports units asked to hold two events a month at PSB centre

Acting director PSB coaching centre Karachi Rafeeq Pirzada has directed academies, clubs and other bodies using its facilities to organise competitions regularly, ‘The News’ learnt on Tuesday.

Acting director PSB coaching centre Karachi Rafeeq Pirzada has directed academies, clubs and other bodies using its facilities to organise competitions regularly, ‘The News’ learnt on Tuesday.

Various academies, clubs and associations use the facilities at the coaching centre for training. They include units of athletics, badminton, table tennis, basketball, football and squash. The PSB coaching centre administration took this decision because sportspersons usually fail to excel due to lack of competitive events.

Pirzada directed all the heads of such entities to organise events twice a month.

He said that these academies, clubs and associations should not just organise events on special occasions. “The PSB administration wanted to give maximum opportunities to sports lovers to show their worth and talent and it is possible when maximum number of sports events are organised regularly. We have strictly directed all of them to organise events twice a month,” he said.

Pirzada said that all coaches and heads of the sports entities had agreed to cooperate with the administration in this regard.

Pirzada said that these sports events would give opportunities to talented sportsmen and sportswomen to show their talent and make their name in their disciplines.

He said that badminton and table tennis championships had been organised a few days back.

Pirzada, who took charge a few months back, said that athletics, football, table tennis, badminton, squash and other sports events would be held regularly, at least twice a month.
