Ali Suria reigns supreme at Azadi Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship 2018

Azadi Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship 2018 concluded on 14th August, the 5-day event was held at the Leisure City bowling club, Safa Gold Mall, Islamabad.

 

Azadi Cup Tenpin Bowling Championship concluded at Leisure City bowling club under the supervision of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF). Players from across the country showcased their talent and technique in the five-day event. The championship comprised different categories including Singles, Doubles, Team Event, Deaf, Women Event, U-12, U-16 and Media Events. The event was held at the Leisure City bowling club, Safa Gold Mall, Islamabad which has become the hub of national bowling events ever since its establishment.

25 year old Ali Suria hailing from Karachi was crowned the winner in Singles category with a massive total of 396 pin with an average of 198  while Saleem Baig secured 2nd spot by scoring 385 pin with 192.5 average ,Ahmed Abbas Saldera remained 3rd with 355 score. A notable absence from the Singles category podium was three time national champion Ijaz ur Rehman who is revered as one of the best bowlers in Pakistan's contemporary history.Ali Suria also laid claim to the Professional Doubles title with Aleem Agha and Team category title alongside Aleem Agha, Sardar Ahmer Abbas Saldera and Daniyal Shah in a spectacular show of form. The national bowling star has performed brilliantly in 2018 bagging titles such as STBA Ramadan and National Tenpin Bowling earlier in the year.

In the Media event, Afzal Javed of Bol TV won the title with 164 pins while Neo news' Shakir Abbasi secured 2nd position and Rizwan claimed 3rd spot in the contest. The prize money for 1st , 2nd and 3rd position holders was PKR 30,000, 15,000 and 10,000 respectively.

Sajid Khan, showed excellent skill to win the amateur category title with 321 pins, Mehboob Ur Rehman bagged 300 to earn 2nd spot while Saqib with 308 pins secured 3rd position.

Rozina Ali won the title in the Women’s event by scoring a total of 231 pins in two games. Amina finished second with 230 pins while Noor bagged third with 221 pins.

In the Deaf event, Qasim Asad won the title by scoring 283 pins in two games. Naseeb Ali secured second place with 259 pins and Shehzad Afridi captured third with 239 pins. 

Doubles event winners were awarded with PKR 40,000 while 2nd position and 3rd position holders received PKR 25,000 and PKR 15,000.The winners of Amateur, Deaf, Women, Under-12 and Media Events received PKR 10,000 each.

Former national bowling Champion and incumbent PTBF secretary Ijaz ur Rehman illustrated the reasons behind organization of the Azadi Cup, he explained that the Azadi Cup was arranged to provide a platform for the new and upcoming bowlers in addition to commemorating the Independence Day.

The national tenpin bowling team is set to take part in three international championships later this year including World Bowling Tour in Thailand, World Men Championship which is to be held in Hong Kong, China and Qubica AMF in Las Vegas USA.
