SSGC move into quarterfinal of Naya Nazimabad Ramadan Cup
Veteran batsman Waqas Haroon scored half century as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) sailed into the last eight round of 5th Naya Nazimabad Ramadan Cup T20 Cricket Tournament with an emphatic six wickets success over Rehman Foundation.
Fancied SSGC chasing a modest 106 runs winning total, lost three top wickets with 25 runs on the board under dazzling lights of Lawai Stadium.
But evergreen Waqas showed his experience under pressure with a delightful match winning knock. Batting smartly, Waqas clubbed half a dozen boundaries and three sixes in his 59 off 46 as SSGC romped home for the loss of four wickets with four overs to spare
Waqas added a match winning 74-run for the fourth wicket with Muzammil Nizam, who made a solid unbeaten 18 in 22 balls without crossing the boundary.
Off-spinner Rana Irfan caused the early damage with two wickets for 13 runs in economical four overs spell.
Earlier Rehman Foundation which was making their first appearance in the event continued their struggle; electing to bat first they were bowled out for 103 with one ball of 20 overs remaining.
Sohail Afzal showed the main resistance with 21 off 16 deliveries laced with two fours and one six. Muhammad Nadeem got 17 with two hits to the ropes.
Spinners Adil Amin and Kashif Bhatti and pace bowler Muhammad Irfan shared two wickets apiece.
SSGC will now meet State Bank of Pakistan in their last league round on Sunday night to decide Group “A” Champions.
Rehman Foundation ended the event with their third successive defeat.
