Irfan, Murad in National badminton championship final

NBP’s Murad Ali to face the challenge of WAPDA’s Irfan Saeed in the final of 55th National Badminton championship at Gymnasium hall Punjab University New Campus, Lahore.

Irfan shocks defending champion WAPDA’s Awais Zahid by 2-0 in the first semifinal of men’s single event with a score of 21-18, 21-17. Irfan holds the match in his favor right from the start and won both the games against defending champion without facing much resistance.

In the second semifinal, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) player Murad ousted Ali Mehdi from WAPDA in two straight game by 21-16 and 21-14. Murad’s defense was too strong against his opponent and he easily won the match that lasted for just 25 minutes.

In women singles event, Mahoor Shahzad from WAPDA and Palwasha Bashir from National Bank reached in the final of the championship. Seasoned campaigner and Pakistan’s no.1 Mahoor ousted her opponent Bushra Qayyum from WAPDA in straight games with a score 21-6, 21-12. In the first game, Mahoor easily grabbed the victory without any serious resistance but in second game her opponent tried to stop the veteran but could not succeed in her efforts. Palwasha from NBP fires Zubaira from SNGPL in the second semifinal by 21-13 and 21-9.
