WAPDA clinch Men, Women team titles of National Badminton Championships

WAPDA outplayed opponents to retain the titles of Men and Women teams in the 55th edition of National Badminton championship at Gymnasium hall Punjab University New Campus, Lahore.

WAPDA defeated National Bank 3-2 in the Men’s final while WAPDA cruises SNGPL 3-0 in Women’s final. 16 different departmental and 4 provincial teams fought for the top honor in Men’s event while 10 teams completed against each other for the Women’s title.

Irfan Saeed from WAPDA cruises Rizwan Azam from NBP by 2-1 in the first singles match. In first doubles, Rizwan Azam and Sashif Sulari from NBP shocks Irfan Saeed and Azeem Sarwar from WAPDA by 2-1. In the second singles, NBP’s Murad Ali stuns WAPDA’s Azeem Sarwar by 2-1. WAPDA’s Azeem Sarwar and Atique Chaudhry overpowered Murad Ali and Aijaz Malik from NBP by 2-0 in the second doubles match. Awais Zahid from WAPDA won the third singles match against Danial of NBP by 2-0.

In the women’s event final, WAPDA easily routed SNGPL 3-0. In the first singles match, Mahoor Shahzad from WAPDA outplayed Zubara from SNGPL 2-0. The first doubles match was also won by WAPDA’s Mahoor and Saima against Ghazala and Zubara of SNGPL by 2-0. Sehra Akram from WAPDA defeated SNGPL’s Juveria Tahir in the second single of women event by 2-0 co complete the whitewash.
