WAPDA, PAF, Navy, Army registers victories in National Volleyball Championship

Pakistan Navy, Army, PAF and WAPDA won the league stage of quart finals in the National Men’s Volleyball Championship at the POF Sports Complex, Wah Cantt.

WAPDA defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while PAF thrashed Police, Navy defeated POF and Army outclassed Pakistan Juniors in straight three games in the first leg of National Men’s Volleyball Championship. Second leg of the quarterfinal will decide the semifinalists.

WAPDA won the first two games easily as inexperienced KP side had no answers of strong smashes and serves of giants WAPDA. KP were unable to pick the serves neatly and loses the first two sets with identical margin of 25-12, 25-12. In the third game when WAPDA grounded its international players, KP boys played their best but they lost the third game also by 25-18.

In the second quarterfinal, experienced Airmen downs Police with their speed and stamina. Fahad and DAwood broke the defense of Police many times with hard and accurate smashes and with their effective blocking Ismail and Sheraz frustrated Policemen. The second set saw police fighting back against the Airmen but again they lacked the pace and could not cross the line. In the third game, Air Force improved their dominance over Policemen and won the match by 25-12, 25-19, 25-14.

Hosts POF played the third quarterfinal against experienced Navy team. Although thay fought well against the seamen but could not go over the line. Navy downs POF in the first game easily but in the second game, POF resisted against the Navy but that was not enough to beat the seamen. In the last game POF scared the Navy team a bit and tried to close the margin but still unable to bridge the gap and lost the match by 25-17, 25-19, 25-21.

Ali Haider, Murad Khan, Abdullah and Usman of Pakistan Juniors performed extremely well against experienced Army men in the last quarterfinal of the day but physically fit Army men proved themselves too good for juniors. Haider from Army was marvelous throughout the match and rescued his team from difficult moments. Zaheer with his perfect boosting won many points for Army and they defeated juniors by 25-20, 25-18, 25-18.
POF to play KPK while PAF to face Army, WAPDA play against Navy and Pakistan Juniors will play against Police in the second leg of quarterfinals on Friday.

  3. Navy defeated POF 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21)
