Pakistan won the poomsae event title of the 5th COMBAXX Asian Taekwondo Open Championship

Pakistan grabbed 14 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals to win the Poomsae event of the 5th Combaxx Asian Taekwondo Championship.

Islamabad: Pakistan emerged victorious in the poomsae event of the 5th COMBAXX Asian Taekwondo Open Championship, securing an impressive tally of 14 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals. Saudi Arabia claimed the second spot with one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while Nepal secured the third position with one gold medal. WTH (Refugee) secured the fourth position with one silver, and Iran closed the top five with one bronze medal.

The championship's second day showcased the continued outstanding performance of Pakistani athletes. In the men's over-18 individual freestyle event, Pakistan's Ameer Hamza clinched the first position with a score of 6.73 points. In the women's over-18 individual freestyle category, Pakistan's Zymal Naqvi achieved a score of 4.56.

The freestyle pair over 18 categories witnessed Pakistan's Ameer Hamza and Naila securing the gold medal with an impressive score of 6.76. In the mixed team event, Pakistan's Maryam, Usman, Waheed, Abbas, and Naqvi clinched the gold medal with a score of 6.26 points. In the men's under-50 freestyle event, Ali Adnan from Saudi Arabia secured the first position with a score of 7.16. Meanwhile, in the women's under-50 freestyle individual competition, Pakistan's Sana Sabir secured the gold medal with a score of 6.23.

The championship commenced with a vibrant ceremony at the Liaquat Gymnasium Hall of the Pakistan Sports Board, featuring a march passed by players representing 27 teams from various countries. The president of the Asian Taekwondo Union, Prof. Kyu Seok Lee, officially inaugurated the championship. During this ceremony, the coach of Iran, the referee from Pakistan, and players from Great Britain and Nepal administered the oath to the participating athletes. The Pakistan Taekwondo Federation's players showcased an impressive display of Taekwondo before the audience.

Distinguished guests at the event included the President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, Prof. Kyu Seok Lee, Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Affairs Hanif Orakzai, Ambassador of Korea to Pakistan Park Ki-Jun, PTF President Colonel (retd) Waseem Janjua, Championship Technical Delegate Kook Hyun Jung, and CEO Omar Saeed, who distributed the awards to the deserving winners.
