Pakistan to host international Taekwondo event next year

World Taekwondo has allotted Pakistan to host an international event for the first time, which will be held at the end of next year.

World Taekwondo has allotted Pakistan an international Taekwondo event for the first time, which will be held at the end of next year while Pakistan Open Taekwondo Championships 2020 will be held from 24th to 30th October where competitions will be held in Cadets,  Juniors and G-1 (Senior) categories in Islamabad.

Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) President, Col Waseem Ahmed said,
“It is a big event and will benefit Pakistan a lot. It is an open event and I expect fighters from around 15 nations which would contribute to the federal government’s initiative to declare 2020 as year of tourism. We believe in tourism through sports.
According to Col Waseem Ahmed, before filing an application for this event he had consulted the government and support had been promised.
“I had consulted with the government and I had been told that the state would help us in the venture.” he said.
Featuring in an international event will give Pakistani Taekwondo athletes a lot of confidence and it will particularly help them earn medals when Pakistan will host South Asian Games in 2021.
“It will help our officials and athletes and boost our organizing capacity and if we are able to conduct it smoothly then we can earn the right to host Asian Championships.” he added.
The federation demands that the state must buy equipment for the athletes which is very expensive and as far as other expenses are concerned, the Federation will seek sponsors and will try their level best to meet the requirement from various sources.

Around 40 foreign technical officials will be given every kind of facilities free of cost besides giving them 100 US dollars daily allowance for around ten days, for which the officials of the Federation had started working already and hopefully the international event will be hosted smoothly if the state contributes.
