Shahzaib Khan captures country's first Taekwondo gold at South Asian Games 2019

Talented Pakistani Taekwondo fighter, Shahzaib Khan collected countries first gold in Taekwondo event of the on-going 13th South Asian Games which are being held in Nepal.

 

In Taekwondo event of 13th South Asian Games, Shahzaib Khan was up against an Sri Lankan counterpart in the final round of -54 KG where he successfully defeated his opponent to snare first gold in the sport for his country.

Jabran Asad Mehsud, Sidra Batool in 46 KG and Mohammad Faheem in 68 KG weight classes added silver medals to Pakistan's tally as well. 

Earlier, the first Silver for Pakistan, came in Pair Poomase category where Mahrunnisa and Shehbaz Ahmed, with their skillful display, secured the medal for the country. While Mehrunnisa earned a bronze in Individual Poomsae as well.

Then Shehbaz, Mumtaz and Mohammad Anas, who featured in Team Poomsae also claimed a bronze whereas Mehrunnisa, Iqra and Asifa clinched bronze in Women Team Event. In Pair event, Pakistan's Mumtaz and Asifa won bronze medal as well.  

Pakistan Taekwondo Squad comprises of a total of 12 fighters which namely are: Mehrun Nisa, Shabaz Ahmed, Mohammad Mumtaz, Asifa Ali, Muhammad Waseem Javed, Syeda Aleena Batool, Sophiya Nayab Baig, Phool Zaheer, Iqra Zaheer, Muhammad Anas, Wajeeh Ul Hassar and Muhammad Hizer Khan. 

So far Pakistan has grabbed 1 gold, four silvers and five bronze medals in Taekwondo event and the green team will fight for gold in four more fights today.
