Bahria Town International Women Squash to revive sport in country

Flanked by Pakistan Squash Federation Honorary Secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz and Bahria Town project director Sitwat Babar, while addressing a press conference at Bahria Town Safari Club, Ilyas said this was the third year in running that Bahria Town was conducting the women squash event.
“We started with $5000, last it year it was $10,000 and now this year it is a $15,000 event.
Hopefully with the unconditional backing of chairman Malik Riaz, we would be able to raise the prize money next year and are quite hopeful more and more international top players would participate in the even as signs are highly encouraging as and 13 international players from Malaysia, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Pakistan are participating in the mega event.
uunfortunately last year’s losing finalist South African Siyoli Waters had to pull out due to injury while 12 Pakistani top players are also in action during the week-long extravaganza.

When asked about the squash courts in Bahria Town that needed expansion as spectators and journalists found it really difficult to attend the event due to shortage of seating capacity, Ilyas said that they were constructing a sports city on the model of Dubai Sports City in Bahria Town Karachi and same constructor is hired, who had worked in Dubai and from next year the sports events would be held in Karachi.
“We are fully aware about squash courts are not at par to seating capacity and we are ready to allocate land if federation gives us portable squash court.
We would install portable 5-wall squash court, in Karachi, which would be unveiled next month.

On performance of Pakistani players in 12th South Asian Games, PSF secretary Amir said Pakistan had won more squash medals this time around but in the team event Pakistan should also have won the gold and was not happy with silver.

Sitwat, who was supposed to travel with Pakistani squash team as manager, said it was always Bahria Town’s desire to contribute towards national cause and the main aim of entering in squash was to help this game revive in Pakistan.
She said Pakistani females a few number of tournaments and it was hardly ever witnessed international female players travelling to play in Pakistan.
“We started the initiative and now I can easily claim, we had managed to provide our females a platform, where they could demonstrate their skills and show the world they are by no means any lesser to any given international player.
