Wapda, Army to face off in the final of National handball championship

Wapda will face Army in the final of the 28th National Handball Championship at the University of Agricultural, Faisalabad.

Eight teams are participating in National Handball Championship which is divided into 2 groups where Wapda and Army have qualified for the final of the 28th National Handball Championship by winning their respective semi-finals at the University of Agricultural, Faisalabad.  

In the first semi-final, Army defeated Railways with a big margin of 51-18 and made their place in the final while the best scorers of Army were Azhar Khan and Shahid Pervez who scored 12 goals each. Zakir made eight goals while Shahid Mahmood and Mohammad Zahid contributed five and four goals, respectively.

In the second semifinal Wapda also eased past HEC in a one sided encounter by 52-28. Shahzad Ali and Nadeem guided WAPDA to success adding eight goals apiece while Mohammad Sohaib and Mohammad Tariq each netted seven goals. Nasrullah, Mohammad Naveed and Manzoor Hussain scored 5, 4 and 4 goals. 

Earlier, in the positional matches Balochistan claimed the seventh place defeating KPK by 21-17.In the fifth position match, Punjab stunned Police by winning a thrilling encounter in extra time after both the teams locked at 39-39 goals at the end of the regulation time. In the extra time, Punjab stamped victory by 44-43 after a neck and neck fight that continued till the final whistle.

Today Wapda will face Army in the final fixture at 5:00 PM. General Manager Pakistan Railways, will be the chief guest on the occasion while HEC will face Railways for the third place.
