Egyptians make way to Pakistan Open squash championship final

World no. 6 Marwan El Shorbagy from Egypt to challenge countryman and world number 13 Mohamed Abouelghar in the final match of Pakistan Open Men’s Squash Championship at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.

 

All-Egyptians final will be played tomorrow as Egyptian Marwan El Shorbagy defeated countryman Zahed Mohamed 11-9, 11-4, 11-3 while Mohamed Abouelghar from Egypt outplayed Hong Kong player Leo Au in the second semifinal by 11-9, 12-14, 11-4, 11-6.

The first semifinal lasted for 30 minutes between Marwan El Shorbagy and Zahed Mohamed when Zahed seemed to have no clue on “Hows” of the game against the top seed player. Marwan bamboozled Zahed with his drop shots and outstanding smashes. In the first game, Zahed resisted against world no. 6 but lost the game 11-9, followed by Marwan’s change of strategy and comprehensively wining the next two games by 11-3, 11-4 making way to the final of Pakistan Open Squash championship.

In second semifinal, No. 3 seed Egyptian Mohamed Abouelghar faced the challenge of No. 4 Leo Au from Hong Kong and Abouelghar won the match by 3-1 games. In the first game, Mohamed Abouelghar faced hard time from Leo although he won the first game by 11-9. In the second game score was initially leveled at 10 all but Leo Au played hard to trick the opponent, winning the second game by 14-12. After the second game, Leo could not stand against the super fit Abouelghar too long and gave up in the third game by 1-4. In the fourth game, Leo once again tried to resist but Egyptian made him chase the ball all through the game, killing his stamina and wining the match.

The two Egyptians will meet each other at 4:00pm tomorrow at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.
