Annie to face Sivasangari in CAS International Women Squash final

Top seed Annie Au survived the scare of Egyptian Rowan Elaraby and play the final of Chief of Air Staff International woman squash final against Malaysian Sivasangari Subramaniam at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.

 

In the first semifinal, top seed Annie Au overpowered no.7 seed Egyptian Rowan Elaraby by 3-2. The second semifinal was played between Malaysian Sivasangari Subramaniam and no.5 Australian Rachael Grinham and Malaysian players stuns Australian and through to the Final of $25,000 CAS International Women Championship.

Top seeded face tough challenge from Egyptian in the match. Annie, although won the first game but it also clears the intentions of Rowan that he would fight and fight hard to reach the final berth. After losing the first game no.7 teenage Egyptian came back strongly to win back to back two games by 11-8 and 11-5 convincingly. Rowan won the second game in 12 minutes and took just 5 minutes to down Annie in the third game. In the fourth game when all things are going in Rowan’s favor, a true match winner and champions showed up and Annie bounced back once again to win the set by 11-8 in 9 minutes. Rowan took 5 minutes injury time out, as she collided with Annie.

It was Annie dominating the fifth game and she simply routed Egyptian to take 9-0 lead. Rowan took 2 points but it was too late to save the match as Annie get 2 more points to win the fifth game in just 5 minutes by 11-2 and through to the final of championship.

In the second semifinal, unseeded Malaysian player Sivasangari Subramaniam cruised no.5 seed Australian player Rachael Grinham comprehensively by 3-0. The energetic Sivasangari took Australian player aggressively and with composed smashes won the game which was not on the cards. The Malaysian won the first game by 11-9, second 11-7 and third 11-5. Rechael resisted at first game but after that she gave up too early against Sivasangari Subramaniam.
