Waleed, Sadaf win respective categories of All Karachi Nazir Shaheed Cycle Race

Cycling aficionados Waleed Rahim and Sadaf Furqan won the men's and women's titles of the 2nd DMC South All Karachi Nazir Ahmed Shaheed Cycle Race.

Cycling aficionados Waleed Rahim and Sadaf Furqan won the men's and women's titles of the 2nd DMC South All Karachi Nazir Ahmed Shaheed Cycle Race.

The 50 km race started from Lyari and passed through Tower, I.I.Chundrigarh Road, KPT Bridge, Sultanabad, PIDC, Shaheen Complex on its way to eventually conclude at the Railway Stadium.

In the mens race, Waleed representing Bikestan Crank Addicts bagged first position by covering the distance in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 18 seconds while Ali Ilyas finished second with the time of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 26 seconds. Wazir was marginally behind the second placed Ilyas with the time of 1 hour 22 minutes and 32 seconds to finish third.

In the women’s 15 km race, Sadaf Furqan finished first after covering the distance in 27 minutes 33 seconds while Zainab Rizwan took second by completing the distance in 27 minutes 40 seconds. Umaira secured third position by covering the distance in 27 minutes and 45 seconds.

The prize distribution ceremony of the race was staged at Football House Lyari.

Chairman DMC South Malik Fayyaz Awan was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed the prizes. He lauded the organisers for naming the race after Nazir Ahmed Shaheed, the late Lyari’s social, political and sports activist. 

Habib Hassan, President of the Karachi Cycling Association, said that efforts are being made to promote cycling in Karachi by providing sports opportunities to the players as well as financially stabilizing the players so that they can fully focus on their sporting abilities. 

Winner of men's race Waleed Rahim, received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 while Ali Ilyas was awarded trophy and cash of Rs. 8000.

For the women’s race Sadaf Furqan was presented Rs. 5000 as winner along with the trophy, second position holder Zainab Rizwan received Rs.3000 along with a trophy.
